Maybe it’s the Catskill Mountain air, but just stepping into Sweet Sue’s in the picturesque hamlet of Phoenicia instantly transforms you into a person who could eat a lumberjack-size portion of pancakes in one sitting. And, oh, what glorious pancakes they are: strawberry and banana, blueberry and banana, lemon-ricotta, chocolate-chip, buckwheat, cornmeal, with toppings like raspberry sauce and real maple syrup. The wonder of it all is that you can mix and match them so you don’t have to agonize about which one to choose — with prices in the ballpark of $9 to $12. Also on the must-taste list: homemade chorizo hash, spicy and satisfying. Creamy and tangy, the goat cheese with caramelized onion omelet will also send you into a blissful state. Given the choices, it’s not surprising that this place has a cult following, with people descending on the weekends, flash-mob style, and willing to wait to get a seat. 845-688-7852.
