Summer Cocktails

Filled with fresh fruit and herbs, these summer cocktails elevate the fine art of entertaining

Let’s face it: one of the purest pleasures of summer in the Hudson Valley is sitting by our majestic namesake river and enjoying a meal with loved ones. But what should you drink? While lighter wines and beers will certainly be showing up on menus all around the region, the warmer months are a perfect time to indulge in a refreshing, fruit-filled cocktail.

“Summer cocktails should be refreshing and simple,” says Milti Kastanis, a spokesperson for the Bonura Hospitality Group. “I want to pick my ingredients straight from the garden.”

Two of the local Bonura restaurants will be serving up cocktails by the river this year. As always, Shadows on the Hudson in Poughkeepsie will kick into high gear as the weather gets warmer. Not only will there be a revamped menu (both food and cocktails), but there will be full service at the Shadows Marina and the high-speed water taxi will ferry nighttime revelers to and from the Newburgh waterfront.

The newest addition to the Bonura Group is housed in the space that Torches on the Hudson used to occupy. Blu Pointe’s focus is on fresh seafood (including a raw bar) and prime beef; but visitors will also surely focus on the dramatic space, which include a 3,200-bottle glass temperature-controlled wine room, stone fireplaces, reclaimed wood and industrial finishes, and a retractable glass wall that opens one of the dining areas to the Hudson River.

The following cocktails will be available at both Bonura restaurants, or try making them at home too.
