Yay cheese! Hats off to Poughkeepsie’s Sprout Creek Farm, which in January won a Good Food Award for its Madeleine Cheese. The 32-year-old farm raises free-range animals, produces local dairy products and meats, and hosts educational programs for both children and adults. The Good Food distinction (which was awarded to only 130 other establishments in the country) honors both the farm’s commitment to environmental responsibility and the food’s great taste.
We were delighted to learn that Red Hook’s Me-Oh-My Cafe and Pie Shop has recently opened a second location in Rhinebeck. Although the hand-crafted pies (billed as “the best pies in the world”) are enough to keep patrons returning, the full lunch menu — upon which nothing is priced over $20 — satisfies hungry customers and doesn’t break the bank. But the best deals are still at the Red Hook branch, which is now serving $10 dinners on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
In December, Inn Credible Caterers took over the management of Garrison’s Bird and Bottle Inn. The catering company (which is also responsible for Cold Spring’s Chalet on the Hudson and Patriot Hills in Stony Point) will focus on weddings and banquets for 50 to 200 guests at the 18th-century estate, with a farm-to-table menu that uses locally sourced ingredients whenever possible.
