We quizzed Valley pros about worthy alternatives to Champagne which, let’s face it, can be pretty pricey. Here are delicious, local sparkling wines to help cheer in the New Year.
Whitecliff Vineyards’ Blanc de Blanc ($29.99) made from Chardonnay grapes in the traditional methode champenoise is an excellent choice. The Migliore family has been growing grapes in Gardiner for over 40 years! Another great option is Rose Hill Farm’s pét-nat called Bird Bath ($30) which I love. Matt Sanford, the wine and cider maker, uses low intervention methods and focuses on making natural wines in Red Hook. — Paul Brady, owner of Paul Brady Wine in Beacon
Low ABV Cliffton Dry ($28 per six pack) is new to the sparkling wine market. Made from a fresh apple blend with citrus and pear notes, the wine is inspired by Cape Town, South Africa, but produced in the Finger Lakes in the Charmat Method of extended fermentation. —Carl Lana, Cliffton Dry sales manager in Mount Kisco
Harvested from a blend of Concord, Niagara, and Seyval Blanc grapes, Marlboro Mountain Sparkling Wine ($17) is beautiful glittery peach in color with aromas of lychee, pineapple, strawberries, lime, and of course, Concord grape. —Jacqueline Ferrari Heavens, co-owner of Quartz Rock Vineyard in Marlboro
