When the folks at the Poughkeepsie Ice House say they’re located on the river, they really mean it. The 19th-century building once stored ice blocks harvested from the Hudson; it is so close to the water’s edge that overflow from 2012’s Hurricane Sandy caused significant damage to the eatery just one week after it opened (service resumed a few days later). Similarly, the menu overflows with seafood dishes — like grilled Atlantic salmon, and brook trout served with roasted golden beet risotto, smoked kale, and tomato jam — as well as many beef and poultry options. In the warmer months, the patio affords splendid views of the Mid-Hudson Bridge and the Walkway Over the Hudson.
