Step back in time at this retro Putnam County drive-in. Founded in 1963, the Red Rooster is a family-friendly spot with shaded outdoor picnic tables, a miniature golf course, full food menu, and ice cream, of course. The Red Rooster is known for their hamburgers. “The bun and the burger — which is made using our secret house recipe — and the way we cook it on an electric grill, is a delicious combination,” says manager Jon Callahan. When owner Joe Fiori bought the Red Rooster in 1993 he considered replacing the electric grill with gas, but changed his mind when he discovered the burgers would lose their distinct flavor. Keep an eye out for celebrities if you go: Meryl Streep and Kevin Bacon are just two of their many fans.
