If you’re looking for authentic Belgian waffles, look no further than Pika’s Farm Table. The company serves LieÌ€ge waffles, a common street food in that European country. They’re made with dough instead of batter; imported pearl sugar (a product of refined white sugar) is folded into the dough and caramelizes when it reacts with the waffle iron’s intense heat. The result is a crunchy exterior with a delightfully gooey and sweet inside. They retail for $4 each, but get bumped up to $6 if they are dipped in chocolate — and we think it’s worth the splurge.
Although Pika’s has no storefront, both online and phone orders can be picked up at their Lake Katrine kitchen or shipped right to your door. Also be sure to look for the waffles at various farmers markets. 845-383-1199; www.pikasfarmtable.com
