Dining outdoors on a warm summer day is one of life’s simple pleasures. There are dozens of perfect patios in the Hudson Valley to choose from; here are a few of our favorites:
Boitson’s Kingston
Last April, this acclaimed 36-seat eatery opened a gorgeous patio. “It actually triples the size of the restaurant,” says bar manager Coby McNaughton. “Much of it is covered with space heaters, so we can stay open through early fall.” 845-339-2333; www.boitsons.com
Cosimo’s Poughkeepsie
This wood-fired pizza parlor and Italian restaurant has added a full-size bocce court. “We’re going to start doing bocce-ball league nights on Mondays and Wednesdays,” says Toni Favata, Cosimo’s general manager. On Thursdays, the restaurant will offer “bocce and bubbly,” during which customers can order Champagne while they play. Guests can enjoy the court in style: It’s surrounded by fancy couches and tables, and exclusive “bocce court cocktails” will be offered as well. “It should be a nice, fun atmosphere for people to hang out,” says Favata. 845-485-7172; www.cosimospoughkeepsie.com
Queen City Bistro Poughkeepsie
The small-plates bistro offers a secluded patio in a tiny courtyard that provides both privacy and peace while you enjoy your meal. 845-337-4684; www.queencitybistro.com
Schlesinger’s Steak House New Windsor
Transport yourself to the “beach” at this acclaimed meatery. When the weather ain’t droppin’, the restaurant is hoppin’: Tiki bars, palm trees, and an illuminated dance floor emerge, making the Beach at Schlesinger’s the biggest party in Orange County. 845-561-1762; www.schlesingerssteakhouse.com
Whistling Willies Cold Spring
This Putnam County hotspot, located on the busiest corner in town, features a wraparound porch where guests can do some serious people-watching while munching on classic American fare like char-grilled burgers and savory sandwiches. 845-265-2012; www.whistlingwillies.com
