Our Daily Bread Café, Chatham

One of our best places to eat breakfast in 2014: Our Daily Bread Café, Chatham

It all started as a small cafeÌ and wholesale bakery operation serving Manhattan specialty food stores and chi-chi restaurants like Jean-Georges. Today, in Our Daily Bread’s Chatham home, there’s a walk-in deli area where you can pick up breads and pastries — including cronuts, that new-fangled trendy delicacy that is a cross between a croissant and a pastry cream-filled donut. This is the go-to place for freshly baked bagels with smoked salmon and cream cheese. But customers also linger at their table while enjoying oversized pastrami omelets.

On a cold winter’s day, order the shakshuka, a Tunisian dish of eggs baked in a spicy tomato sauce and served with a slice of just-baked bread, which is perfect for sopping up the juices. Maybe you’ll be in luck and they’ll serve croissants stuffed with Nutella and bananas and cooked like French toast. It’s all in the $7.50 to $10 range. If you plan on visiting soon, check the Facebook page — the restaurant will be closed for part of January. 518-392-2233.
