Overlooking the Hudson River and the Catskill Mountains, Stuyvesant is the aptly bucolic setting for the revamped Riverview Café, under new ownership. Here, in a charming, circa-1800s building next to the local post office, Chef Daniel Cunningham — formerly of Finnbar’s Pub, in Troy — turns out homey new-American dishes like bacon studded potato chowder and braised pork shoulder marinated in tamari, chilies, and honey, all washed down by New York State craft brews.
Cunningham’s refined spins on comfort food all feature local and organic ingredients from nearby purveyors such as Kinderhook Farm, Pigasso Farms, and Monkshood Nursery. Between the view and eye-opening breakfasts of poached eggs accompanied by warm kale, mornings are also a lovely time to settle in for a meal.
