After sitting vacant for nearly three decades, the once-derelict building at the Taconic State Parkway’s Todd Hill rest area has been transformed into the first official Taste of NY Market.
The Lagrange shop, which opened in June and is managed by the Cornell Cooperative Extension Dutchess County, couldn’t be in a better location: After all, more than 18,000 drivers zoom along the parkway every day. They can now upgrade their bathroom breaks by buying not candy bars and soda, but a rotating range of products — fresh eggs and dairy products, veggies and other produce, syrups, meats, as well as ready-to-eat items like local ice cream, sandwiches, pastries, and tea — from 15 local farms.
And although it’s technically a parkway, it seems fair to say that the Taconic suddenly has become the healthiest highway in the state.
