Forget about Dunkin’ Donuts and Krispy Kreme, they’re a thing of the past. These hotshot donut gods have officially been shown up by a Valley newcomer.
Open since November 2015, Daddy’s Donuts & Bake Shop in Middletown prides itself on not just creating familiar favorites — think chocolate glaze, Boston cream, and jelly-filled — but experimenting with new and creative baked goods.
Owner Giulio DeFilippis’ parents opened their first Italian bakery, called DeFilippis, in Middletown in 1971; Giulio ran the Monticello branch of the shop for about 25 years. Daddy’s Donuts was born out of an idea conceived by his wife, Tamarralee, who manages the shop. Giulio’s goal is to modernize the bakery experience and create something new and exciting for his community. Signature donuts include the Fat Daddy, a maple glazed topped with bacon; the Cinnamon Toast Crunch; and Daddy’s Girl, a cake donut covered with vanilla glaze and rainbow sprinkles. And lest you think the establishment only knows about doughy delights, Daddy’s is a full-service bakery, concocting a variety of in-house treats like cupcakes, Danishes, éclairs, cannoli, cream puffs, pies, cheesecake, and even baguettes. Get a coffee and eat in at the cozy eatery, or grab one of their popular creations to go.
