If an Old Fashioned is your go-to drink, switch it up (slightly) for fall with this scrumptious rendition from Roost in Sparkill.
Cocktail trends come and go, but the Old Fashioned has staying power, particularly as the weather cools. Although there’s nothing wrong with the classic recipe, we suggest you try this version from Roost in Sparkill. Their twist on the original involves subbing sugar for Grand Marnier for a boost of citrus and using black walnut bitters instead of Angostura for a distinctive nutty flavor. We’ll drink to that!
The New Old Fashioned
1 oz. Grand Marnier
2 dashes of Fee Brothers black walnut bitters
2 oz. rye whiskey (we use Bulleit)
Orange wedge and maraschino cherry, for garnish
- Add Grand Marnier and bitters to a rocks glass and stir to combine. Fill the glass with ice cubes, add whiskey and stir. Garnish with an orange wedge and a maraschino cherry.
