Captain Hook’s Buried Treasure – Sweet Stack Chimney Cakes

The Dutchess County Fair has a lot to offer the near 300,000 folks that flock to its Rhinebeck location each August: All the favorite rides are there, accompanied by music performances, games a-plenty, and vendors of every sort. The food, however, is truly one of the best parts.
This year, 35 new menu items are slated to join the classic concessions that have already won so many hearts. Some are perfect for those more daring (like the Jalapeno Lemonade) while others (like a chocolate churro milkshake) are downright delicious by design.
Deborah Aschmann, Concessions and Partnerships for Dutchess County Fairgrounds, says that the dishes are fun additions to typical menu items. “Some of the dishes are quite edgy, like you’d only do it on a dare,” she laughs, “and others are outrageously delicious.”
To celebrate unusual and appealing additions alike, the Fair is holding an App-based, people’s choice contest called the SporkRun prior to opening on August 23. Users of the App will get to preview these mouth-watering additions before the fair and vote which will get the royal—and bedazzled!—Spork crown.
Another contest, called the Spork Awards, will be held during the fair itself. Like the SporkRun, this competition is hosted by the Rhinebeck Bank, but will instead look to a panel of community-based judges to vote one item the ultimate winner.
This year’s build of the app (and a list of all the vendors) will be available for download soon. Until then, head to Dutchess County Fair’s Facebook page for a taste of what’s to come.
