When a recipe has been around for 117 years, you know something is working, and working well. This is precisely the case with the chocolate produced by Haverstraw’s Lucas Candies. The chocolate purveyor was started by five Lucas brothers 1896 (which, by the way, was four years before the first Hershey’s Bar was consumed in America) after they emigrated from Greece — and brought their scrumptious recipe with them. That same delightful concoction is still made today at the original store location on Main Street, which is also still owned by a member of the Lucas family.
In the Lucas Classic Bag (at left), the chocolate smothers a variety of treats like Oreos and pretzels, as well as many others; but the ones that really make mouths water are the dark chocolate drizzle bar and the dark chocolate marshmallow and caramel gob. We dare you to resist.
