Poughkeepsie lunchtime staple, Lola’s Café recently opened a second, larger location in New Paltz, bringing their elevated casual dining experience across the river to Ulster County.
With 12 years of success at its original Walkway Over the Hudson spot, owner Ed Kowalski knew it was time to branch out. “I felt the staff was strong enough to open another location,” said Kowalski, a CIA grad. “We had been looking to expand in New Paltz for the last three years but couldn’t find the right spot.”
The former site of Neko Sushi, 49 Main St., features a larger dining room and an outdoor patio — perfect for lunch or dinner. The eatery celebrated with a soft opening on July 10.
Expanding its services to include dinner, the New Paltz location will offer many of the same menu items as its Poughkeepsie flagship, with the addition of alcoholic provisions like craft beer and wines, alongside trendy, over-the-top monster milkshakes (above).
If you’re hoping to treat yourself to the café’s signature range of healthful yet hearty chopped salads, sandwiches, and vegetarian bowls, Lola’s New Paltz doesn’t disappoint.
Go with the southwest bowl, topped with black bean, corn, avocado, and a hard-cooked egg, or indulge in a short rib grilled cheese with tomato chutney. For a healthier alternative, try the Asian chicken salad with peanut sautéed chicken fritters, cucumbers, fried noodles, and cilantro lime vinaigrette. Whatever you order, revel in the fact that Lola’s ingredients are local.
Lola’s Café is open every day for lunch and dinner in New Paltz.
