For many of us of a certain age, orange creamsicles were a rite of summer. I can still remember ripping the wrapping off of the Popsicle and gingerly biting into the orange ice; at this point you knew that you were only moments away from the creamy vanilla center.
Fans of Defiant Brewing Company’s Orange Cream swear that the seasonal beer smells and tastes exactly ike an orange creamsicle. “There are not a lot of other breweries making this,” says Ben Blowers of the Pearl River brewery. “It’s unique, and it’s also very popular. People start calling in March and asking when it is going to be available.”
If blueberries are one of your favorite seasonal treats, you may want to check out the ever-popular Blueberry Wheat Beer at Cave Mountain Brewing Company in Windham. “Wheat adds body and a crisp smoothness, but doesn’t impart a lot of flavor of its own, so it makes for a refreshing beer that allows other subtle flavors to shine,” says local beer writer Derek Dellinger. “Blueberry is a great choice.”
Sun Block from Captain Lawrence Brewing Company in Elmsford is a hoppy wheat beer with serious citrus tones. “I love the fruity, crisp element,” says Dellinger. “This is a beer you can drink a whole lot of without getting bored.”
