Find out when your favorite scoop stands are back in action in the Hudson Valley.
The sun is shining, the birds are chirping — and the ice cream machines are whirring. Here are some of our favorite local parlors and when you can expect them to open for the season.
Mickey’s Igloo 3
This ice cream stand is a Saugerties staple, and for good reason. With a delightful mix of soft and hard flavors, along with light, lactose-free, and vegan options, there’s something for everyone. Choose from classic flavors like chunky chocolate chip and cookies & cream or switch it up with vegan blueberry pancake or a donut topped with creamy soft serve.
Opens: Open since February 18
Where: 72 Main St, Saugerties
Cherry Top Dairy Bar
This roadside ice cream joint offers a variety of soft serve flavors, shakes, and sundaes. (Ask for the wet walnuts — walnuts soaked in maple syrup — for your topping. You won’t be disappointed.) Keep an eye out for the salted caramel soft serve or, if you’re planning a party, get an ice cream cake to go.
Opens: March 13
Where: 949 Rte 32, Newburgh
Joe’s Dairy Bar
This family-owned dairy bar serves up burgers, shakes, all-beef hot dogs, chicken bacon ranch wraps, bacon ranch cheese fries, and fried clams. Wash it all down with your choice of hard ice cream flavors (we like banana cream pie and peanut butter s’mores), soft serve ice creams, slush drinks, frozen yogurts, and Italian ice.
Opens: Open since February 29
Where: 550 Rte 82, Hopewell Junction
Moo Moo’s Creamery
Though its extensive menu offers a whopping variety of ice cream flavors, this ice cream shop is happy to create any flavor that its fans desire. Moo Moo’s caters events throughout the city and the Tri-State area; you can purchase its ice cream wholesale, too.
Opens: TBA
Where: 32 West St, Cold Spring
Weir’s Ice Cream
The menu features hard ice cream flavors like apple pie à la mode and chocolate malt crunch; “cyclones,” which are soft-serve flavors with different mix-ins (think peanut butter cups or gummy bears); ice cream sodas; shakes; slush drinks; sherbet; Italian ice; and sundaes. Keep an eye out for Weir’s frequent specials and fun promotions to support local teams and organizations.
Opens: First weekend in April
Where: 2159 Rte 94, Salisbury Mills
Zoghby’s Blueberry Mountain Ice Cream
Not only does this parlor boast homemade and premium flavors, sorbet, and creamy Italian gelato, but it’s conveniently located in Middletown as well. Try a hand-dipped waffle cone stacked high with birthday cake or chocolate peanut butter scoops for the ultimate afternoon treat.
Opens: Early April
Where: 655 Rte 17M, Middletown
