3 Hudson Valley Twists on Chinese Food That Are Too Good

With Cantonese noodles, Mongolian beef, and Northeastern Chinese dumplings, local Asian eateries are anything but basic.

Goosefeather

A recent addition to the dining scene, Goosefeather is the latest endeavor from Chef Dale Talde. Located at Tarrytown House Estate, the restaurant aims to expose diners to the tenets of Cantonese fare — noodles, dumplings, and barbecue — while adding in some surprise ingredients. The results are dishes like wild mushroom slippery noodle with bean sprouts and shaved hazelnut, pork and black truffle wonton with smoked chili oil, and wok roasted scallops with snow peas and cashews.

Don’t skip the inventive cocktails either, like the watermelon margarita with sesame leaf or pink peppercorn-infused mezcal with lemon, vermouth, and elderflower.

Palace Dumpling

This unassuming spot tucked into a strip mall on Route 9 boasts some of the best dumplings around. Made in a style typical of Northeast China, the dumplings arrive to the table still steaming and stuffed with any number of ingredient combinations: pork and scallion, beef and mushroom, lamb and watercress (order them pan-fried if you like a little crunch).

And while the dumplings are the twinkle in this hidden gem, there are plenty of vegetarian options like spicy kimchi salad or vegetarian fried rice. A word to the wise: This is not the place to stop if you are in a hurry.

Super Bowl Cuisine

This Kingston restaurant, located just outside the popular Uptown district, has all of the greatest hits on its menu: kung pao chicken, Mongolian beef, lo mein; but for a unique dining experience, try Super Bowl Cuisine’s all-you-can-eat hot pot meal. Using a build-your-own format à la fondue or Korean BBQ, the hot pot lets diners choose their broth base and ingredients, which include house-made pork ball, squid, lamb, bok choy, taro, mushrooms, and more than a dozen other options for a cozy and filling dinner.

Don’t forget the dipping sauce!
