Hudson Valley Celebrity Waiters Brunch 2011

Local movers-and-shakers show a little skin for a good cause

The Valley is full of respectable, noteworthy gentlemen and the Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum is putting them to work — for a good cause, of course.

The museum presents its fifth annual Celebrity Waiters Brunch fund-raiser on March 20 from 12-3 p.m. at the Grandview in Poughkeepsie. At the event, these renowned Valley residents serve patrons a scrumptious brunch, then participate in a hilarious “best legs” competition. Outfitted in a tuxedo jacket and shorts, each waiter gets to show off his gams to an entrance song of his choice, hamming it up in an attempt to win over judges. “Last year was a huge success,” says Sara Capozzoli, the museum’s marketing director. “This year is going to be bigger and better: We’ve got new waiters, new entertainment — including illusionist Ryan Dutcher — and we’re hoping to raise as much money as we can to ensure we can continue to feature top programs for local children.”

Some of the confirmed participants include musician Rob Affuso (Soulsystem Orchestras, Skid Row), John Ferrara (of Bad Ass Coffee in Wappingers Falls), Pat Manning (of Hudson Valley Fresh and the Hudson Valley Fiber Farm), Ed Kowalski (of Crave Restaurant), and many more.

“It’s a good way to showcase the museum and allow the community to see what we do,” Capozzoli says. “But it’s also just a great time; a lot of fun for everyone involved.”

The museum is a nonprofit organization which has been serving the Poughkeepsie area for more than 20 years. Tickets to the brunch are $85; for more information, visit www.mhcm.org.
