Beer is a big business in the Hudson Valley. Unless you’ve been M.I.A. from the area for quite some time (and in that case, welcome back), you’re probably aware that the region is a goldmine when it comes to craft beverage options.
While we’ve already created a Hudson Valley beer bible and a 48-hour weekend warrior brewery tour, we’re always on the hunt for the latest announcements and openings in the local craft beer world. Case in point: here’s the brew news you need to know now.
Gardiner Brewing Company
699 Rte 208, Gardiner
Located in the old dairy barn behind Wright’s Farm, Gardiner Brewing Company is a new brewery and taproom that takes “think local first” seriously. Its slogan, “beer from here,” translates to brews like Cherry Pale Ale, made with barley and wheat from Hudson Valley malt and cherries from Wright’s Farm. After a grand opening in September 2018, Gardiner welcomes visitors on Saturdays and Sundays from 3-7 p.m. with a curated selection of beers and, on special afternoons, some live music too.

King’s Court Brewing Company
40 Cannon St, Ste 1, Poughkeepsie
When King’s Court Brewing Company opened at the end of August 2018, it signaled the rebirth of the historic Poughkeepsie space that once housed the King’s Court Hotel. Now up and running, the happening business brews onsite and has indoor and outdoor seating. Sample a glass, or grab a 4-pack to go, from the “Berry” series. If you crave a sliver of summer, opt for the Yourberry, a pale ale with notes of mango, papaya, and banana. As for what to eat, King’s Court has a regularly rotating schedule of local food truck visitors, so you can be rest assured that good eats are always within reach.
“Amour” (2018) – our love…the best batch since the original. Releasing in cute lil’ bottles & barn draft this weekend – Friday, Saturday, Sunday Noon-7pm. It’s really good guys… Bright Funk with Rich, Meaty, Ripe Strawberry & Light Oak. Seed-like Tannin… not too tart. Pretty ideal.
Plan Bee Farm Brewery
115 Underhill Rd, Poughkeepsie
Plan Bee has been a mainstay in the Hudson Valley since 2013, when Emily and Evan Watson moved to Fishkill to open a sustainable brewery. Fast forward to 2015, when the couple relocated to a 25-acre farm in Poughkeepsie, and then to 2018, when they opened its tasting room. Open Friday to Sunday from noon to 7 p.m., the tasting room is a must for sampling the difference that 100 percent New York State ingredients, from hops and grains to yeasts and herbs, make.

Sloop Brewing Co.
755 East Dr, iPark, East Fishkill
Sloop is a Hudson Valley favorite, and for good reason. With flavorful brews and collectible cans, the brewery leads the way in the local beer scene. In September 2018, Sloop expanded its hoppy terrain to East Fishkill when it announced the opening of the Factory, a new kitchen, tasting room, and brewery housed inside iPark, the renovated space that was once an IBM plant. The new brewery is almost 10 times the size of the Elizaville original, which means fans can expect even more Juice Bomb, Confliction, and limited releases galore.

Subversive Malting and Brewing
414 Main St, Catskill
Although Subversive is currently a small-scale operation, stay tuned for announcements on the opening of its new Catskill brewery. Expect specialty sips like pilsner and pale malts at what will be Subversive’s flagship in the Valley. Follow along @drinksubversive on Instagram for updates on construction.

West Kill Brewing
2173 Spruceton Rd, West Kill
West Kill opened in summer 2017, but it still feels like a very well-kept secret in the Hudson Valley. Located on a sprawling 127-acre historic dairy farm in Greene County, the brewery produces beers that are as quintessentially Hudson Valley as it gets. Make a visit to the tasting room to sample the Apiary IPA, brewed with Catskill Mountain wildflower honey, or the Dark Hollow, a chocolate porter brewed with Fruition chocolate. In addition to a top-notch taproom and a mouthwatering selection, West Kill also partners with local brands and makers to host fun events. S’mores pop-up or mushroom walk and talk, anyone?
Pop on by for 4-packs or 750ml bottles at the Cider Shack before you head out to soak in the last of summer. Finally a perfect weather weekend. 🌠. . . #aquietstyle #drinklocal #thinknydrinkny #cidery #cider #craftcider #nycider #hudsonvalley #litchfieldcounty #berkshires #millertonny #upstateny #applelife #upstatenewyork #ciderweek #naturalwine #artisnal #handmade #craftbeer #craftbeerlover #craftbeerporn #ciderfest #ciderlove #ciderlife #cidermill #ciderbar #cidermaking #ciderapples #cidertasting #craftdrinks
Bonus: King’s Highway Fine Cider
It’s not beer, but King’s Highway Cider deserves a shout-out for its hyper local spin on the apple-y, boozy drink trend that’s fast taking over the Hudson Valley. After a move from home production first in Brooklyn and then in Millerton, the small town cidery opened a cider shack at McEnroe Organic Farm at the end of August 2018. Owner Tyler Graham forages for apples from Dutchess County farms to produce dry, highly addictive ciders like Pool Party, flavored with rhubarb and tart cherries, and Whip Appeal, which blends apples with guava.
