Ed. note: We regret that, shortly after we went to press with this story, Gigi’s Market announced it would close in order to focus on its catering services and Gigi’s Trattoria restaurant in Rhinebeck. We’ve decided to publish this article online in the event that Gigi’s Market returns. Our fingers are crossed!
It’s not every day that you get to have breakfast on a farm. That’s the allure of Gigi’s Market in Red Hook. Located in a refurbished beamed barn at Greig Farm, this northern outpost of the famous Rhinebeck trattoria is giving breakfast sandwiches their moment. The only problem is, how to choose? Should you have the Classic — local egg with bacon and New York State cheddar ($6)? Or make it an España — a layered, eggy masterpiece of smoky, juicy chorizo, Coach Farm goat cheese, sweet slow-roasted piquillo peppers, onions, and tomato? ($8). The most sensible thing to do is have one today and come back tomorrow for the other (just remember that they’re only open on weekends during the winter). Homemade bagels, scones, and muffins provide even more a la carte temptation. You can customize them to your liking at a self-serve toaster area well stocked with Ronnybrook Farm butter and glistening local jams. 845-758-1999; www.gigihudsonvalley.com
