Foundry Café, Cold Spring

One of our best places to eat breakfast in 2014: Foundry Café, Cold Spring

Owner and griddle meister Jeff Consaga gets cracking in the early morning hours at this beloved and funky Cold Spring resturant. Patrons rave about the French toast, made with Italian bread — which is then fried and baked — and dotted with berries, apples, and bananas ($14.95). “Some people have it as their wallpaper on Facebook,” says Consaga. Made-to-order omelets are endless in their combinations and draw regulars from as far away as Connecticut and Westchester on weekends. Try the brie, herb, and tomato ($10.50) for a lovely taste combo. Or keep it simple and have a bowl of Oatmeal Crunch — a deluxe version with raisins, almonds, sunflower seeds, vanilla, and maple syrup ($5.75). Spend hours here if you like during the week (be aware that on weekends the wait can stretch up to two hours), nursing a coffee and blueberry muffin while pecking at your laptop or writing in your journal. Just don’t pull out your cell phone and start yakking — they’re strictly prohibited. After your meal, it’s an easy walk to the river to admire the panoramic view. Take note: Breakfast ends around noon during the week, around one on Saturday and two on Sunday. 845-265-4504.
