Five Can’t-Miss Foodie Events This Month

News and notes from the Valley’s dining scene in January 2016, including new restaurants, holiday menus, food festivals, and winter CSA programs

The Woodbury Common Premium Outlets center has updated its dining experience by opening a variety of new restaurants in a 51,100-square-foot, 900-seat Market Hall. Popular hot spots — including the Valley’s first Shake Shack and Le Pain Quotidien — are featured in the hall (www.premiumoutlets.com/outlet/woodbury-common).

Through January 3, Yard House at the Palisades Center in West Nyack will offer its special Comfort & Joy Holiday Menu. Enjoy a variety of tasty dishes, from zaatar-crusted salmon and apple cider-brined pork chop to lobster mac and cheese. Top it all off with Rum Pumpkin Mule or Banana Berry Rum Macadamia Nut Crumble (www.yardhouse.com/events/winter-holiday-menu).

Reason number one to break your New Year’s resolution: What’s better than a food and wine fest to ruin your restraint? There’s always the day after you head to the Albany Chefs’ Food & Wine Festival, January 14-16, orchestrated by the city and held for the seventh year at the Hilton Albany. This year there will be more than 70 chefs and 250 global wine, spirit, and New York State craft beer companies vying for your attention and stomach, as well as educational seminars to up your brain power. The mayor’s opening celebration is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, followed the next day (after 4 p.m.) with a “rising star” chef pavilion and battle of the bartenders; another popular Friday event is the slider slam. From Saturday morning until early afternoon, feast on artisanal donuts and coffee. Then your diet can return! Golden Thai Buddha in Fishkill is under new ownership. Manager Jitlada Korsangwichai says that the same Thai restaurant that we know and love has not changed much, but the eatery is now open six days a week. The owner’s goal is to make the ambiance more “intimate, relaxed, and cozy” (www.goldenbuddhathai.com).

In need of some fresh fruits and veggies during the cold winter months? Fishkill Farms has got you covered. With its Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, you can pick up fresh items like kale, greens, cabbage, and apples on a weekly basis (www.fishkillfarms.com/csa_ourCSA.html).
