Idyllic wineries are synonymous with the Hudson Valley (just look at our recent Wine Guide for proof). And, along with an explosion of distilleries crafting small-batch spirits, the current brewery boom provides yet another reason to drink locally. Illuminating this is the inaugural Hudson Valley Craft Beer Fest, unfolding at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds on September 12 and 13.
Held in tandem with the Hudson Valley Wine & Food Fest, the event, presented by WineRacks.com, showcases frothy varieties like Maple Amber from Chatham Brewing, Trout Town Rainbow Red Ale from Roscoe NY Beer Co., and Honey Blueberry from Brewster’s Bull & Barrel Brew Pub. Hyde Park Brewing Company and Yonkers Brewing Co. will also be pouring specialties.

Bronx-made beer at Gun Hill Brewing Co. offers a glimpse into New York City’s ascendant scene, while vibrant selections from Bad Seed Cider Company in Highland and Walton-based Gravity Ciders put autumn-perfect apples in the spotlight. In between all that sipping, refresh the palate with seminars, cooking demos, and live music performances.
