If you like beer and supporting local business, the Hudson Valley Craft Beer Week is your go-to event this month. The 10-day event, held September 11-20, is dedicated to celebrating the region’s flourishing craft beer scene.
Throughout the “week,” beer-lovers can sample signature brews from 11 local taprooms — including a brand-new “Hudson Valley Craft Beer Week Beer” that was crafted specifically for this event using local hops. The fest also features dinners, pub crawls, film screenings, and meet-the-brewer events at area bars and eateries.
Founded by Hudson Valley Craft Beer Geeks, a non-profit headed by local brewers and industry professionals, the event officially kicks off with a four-hour tapping event at the Oath Craft Beer Sanctuary in Tarrytown. All 11 specialty brews from the participating breweries will be tapped for the first time.

Perhaps one of the week’s most anticipated events is the “11 x 11 Chef Beer Dinner,” which partners 11 Hudson Valley restaurants with a participating brewery to serve a three-course meal. (The dinner is held on Tuesday, September 15 from 6-10 p.m. at the Newburgh Brewing Company. Tickets are $100.) Don’t forget to grab a HVCBW T-shirt; all proceeds from the dinner and T-shirt sales help fund next year’s Hudson Valley Craft Beer Week.
Another can’t-miss event: “Women In Beer” (Thursday, September 17 from 8:30-11:30 p.m. at Growlers Beer Bistro in Tuckahoe). Proving that beer isn’t just for the boys, attendees will get to know some of the ladies behind the kegs.
The week wraps up with Big Brew NY Beer Festival (September 19 in White Plains), Hudson River Craft Beer Festival (September 19 in Beacon), and the Peekskill Brewery’s Brewer’s Brunch (September 20 in Peekskill).
“Like Philadelphia and New York City before us, as a region becomes a destination for craft beer drinkers, it’s natural to create a week to celebrate that region’s beer,” says Aaron Pozit, HVCBW president and manager of special events and the taproom at Captain Lawrence Brewing Company. We’ll drink to that!
