Fan-Favorite Westchester Bagel Shop Comes to Yorktown

Bagel Emporium’s newest location has all your old favorites, from the “Notorious BEC” to Fruity Pebbles with schmear.

Whether you’re a fan of “flagels” (trust us) or just getting a cheesy, melty, ooey-gooey bacon-egg-and-cheese in the mornings, there’s reason to celebrate in Yorktown. Five-time Best of Westchester winner Bagel Emporium has opened a brand new location right on Commerce Street, and it’s bustling.

“We had a lot of people tell us, ‘Yorktown needs a bagel shop. Come up to Yorktown,’” says Ryan Rozins, part of the father-son duo that owns Bagel Emporium. Ryan’s father, Michael, opened the brand’s very first location in Hartsdale back in 1983. “It seemed like a good fit,” he continued. “Lot of people, no bagel shop. There was just a need.”

Of course, why simply fill a niche when you can to it in style? While the Rozinses are proud of their old-school kettle boiling to give their bagels that deliciously smooth skin and fluffy interior, they are just as proud of the modern design at the new location. “What separates us from other bagel places is we do everything the old-fashioned way, but with a modern twist,” Ryan says.

“Not a lot of people know how a bagel is made anymore.” The new shop’s open kitchen — replete with stainless steel and subway tile — lets customers see all the hard work that goes into making an amazing traditional bagel, from kettle to basket to oven (to your hands).

If “traditional” isn’t exactly your wheelhouse, don’t worry. That classic methodology still applies to modern varieties like cinnamon-raisin, rainbow, whole-wheat sesame, and Fruity Pebbles. Mix and match that with more than a dozen varieties of cream cheeses and spreads such as jalapeño, garlic and herb, and bacon-scallion. (And yes, there are plenty of Tofutti options for our lacto/vegan friends!)

We spent a couple hours in the Yorktown shop and at no point did the line of eager customers dissipate. Even well past brunch time, patrons were steadily flowing in to grab coffee, salads, snacks, and piled-high sandwiches, wraps, and panini from the deli counter.
