Craft Brewing in the Hudson Valley Booms

The craft brewing industry goes into overdrive

Another month, another brewery — or so it seems anyway. The year 2012 saw the arrival of some new producers — from the big (the Newburgh Brewing Company, photo left) to the small (Rushing Duck Brewery) to the tiny (hello, Sloop Brewing Company). Still, this year there were even more — including Mill House Brewing on Poughkeepsie’s Main Street, Yard Owl Craft Brewery in Gardiner, and even bars like the Dutch Ale House in Saugerties getting in on the action. Already established breweries also upped the ante by introducing new beers, widening their distribution, introducing entertainment and foo-foo food, and in some cases, completely renovating their tap rooms. Thank goodness we introduced our beer column, “The First Draft,” to stay on top of it all. Cheers!
