What happens when three friends who grew up in the restaurant business get together to open their own restaurant? Two words: Brix Gastropub.
Teddy Harpolis; his twin brother, Frank; and Dane Desantis are the co-owners of Brix Gastropub. “We’re Greek — that basically sums it up,” jokes Teddy, who, along with Frank, also owns the Valley Diner, just five minutes down the road. “We’re close friends that grew up together in the [restaurant] business. We all worked together in the building that became Brix Gastropub.”
With a casual-cool vibe, their new restaurant is the type of place where you’ll feel comfortable wearing jeans and sneakers, but you can still expect a delicious meal.
“Our menu is creative and approachable,” says Teddy. Guests can pick from a delectable mix of shareable appetizers, sandwiches, burgers, salads, and globally inspired entrees ranging from Nonna’s chicken parm and the New Orleans po’boy to Korean BBQ rolls and the Mexican pork sandwich. Don’t forget a side of gooey mac ’n’ cheese; trust us, it’s the perfect accompaniment to any meal.
The bar menu features unique drinks that incorporate fresh ingredients, like a house-made local apple-honey-ginger simple syrup in the Marlboro Mule. One drink we’ve never seen on a menu before: the Frozen Cannoli, Brix’s adult-beverage version of the classic dessert. If that’s too sweet for you, get back to basics with the Frozen Car Bomb: a trifecta of Jameson, Bailey’s, and Guinness topped with Irish whipped cream.
“We wanted to create a place where people can afford to come weekly,” Teddy says when discussing the price points. “People can come by, enjoy an appetizer, entrée, and a drink, and not get killed by the price.”
While Brix is a great neighborhood spot, they are hoping to attract visitors from out of town, too. “We want to bring people to Marlboro,” says Teddy. “We are investing in Marlboro and giving people more reasons to visit.”
