Best New Hard Cider 2014: Nine Pin Cider Works

Nine Pin Cider Works

Albany

Ghent-reared Alejandro del Peral grew up surrounded by apple orchards. “Since I was a little kid my dad has been planting apple trees all over our 10-acre property,” he recalls. Coupling that bucolic background with hands-on experience at Citizen Cider in Vermont led del Peral to launch his own cidery, Nine Pin. His sparkling, off-dry Nine Pin Signature Blend puts apples from Kinderhook’s Samascott Orchards in the spotlight, but del Peral also has an adventurous side, co-fermenting local apples and blueberries and melding sour cherries with sumac harvested from wild Columbia County trees. 518-449-9999; www.ninepincider.com
