Riesling from Whitecliff Vineyard & Winery
Gardiner
For over 30 years, former chemical engineer Michael Migliore has been crafting high-quality, small-batch wines. His wife, Yancey, is in charge of Whitecliff’s welcoming tasting room. Among their sought-after selections is the off-dry Riesling — sweetened with unfermented juice from the harvest — which first made a splash when it won Best White Wine in Show at the 2010 San Francisco International Wine Competition. A tribute to New York State, it embraces a mélange of grapes from their own vineyard, the Finger Lakes, and Long Island’s North Fork. “We like the balance we achieve given the different acidity produced in the grapes by the different climates,” says Yancey. New to the portfolio this year: an even drier Reserve Riesling. 845-255-4613; www.whitecliffwine.com
