These Avocado Toasts Are Musts for Brunch in the Hudson Valley

For healthy, trendy, and downright delicious avocado toasts, book a brunch at one of these Hudson Valley hotspots.

It happens like clockwork every weekend. What begins as an innocent scroll through Instagram results in feelings of #FOMO as you browse photo after photo of the pancake platters, fruit salads, and fluffy omelets that build the brunch spreads of your dreams. In all of them, one dish shines as the pinnacle of brunching goals: avocado toast.

What began as a millennial trend has since transformed into a breakfast classic. One taste, and you’ll understand the appeal. Creamy avocado is better than butter on top of warm, perfectly crunchy toast. Add in a handful of extra fixings and a freshly baked loaf of bread, and you have a mouthwatering morning meal that will keep you going until lunch. Luckily for Hudson Valley residents, local restaurants have risen to the avocado toast challenge. Grab a slice and join the breakfast revolution.

Trust Beacon Bread Company to serve an unpretentious toast that is packed with flavor. Unsurprisingly, top-of-the-line loaves are the secret ingredient here. All toast orders come on the shop’s signature harvest grain bread, which is made fresh daily. The wholesome nuttiness packed in each slice pairs beautifully with the smooth, buttery texture of the avocado and a hint of lime on top. Add a couple poached eggs and a kick from the eatery’s homemade hot sauce to spice it up.

Bobo’s Cafe is a Westchester favorite when it comes to delicious, on-the-go brunch foods that rival the premade meals at Starbucks. At one of four locations, indulge in a wide variety of avocado toasts that are sure to leave you feeling satisfied. Go for the Bo-licious for a piece of multigrain bread piled high with smashed avocado, arugula salad, red pepper flakes, and lemon vinaigrette. For a more south-of-the-border vibe, choose the Pico-chu toast for a slice of multigrain topped with avocado and pico de gallo. If you’re focused on your protein, the G.O.A.T. toast has everything you need with mashed avocado, goat cheese, and a sunny-side-up egg. Last but certainly not least, the plain toast is exactly what you’d expect: avocado on bread.

Bread Alone Bakery

Boiceville, Rhinebeck, Woodstock

Bread Alone is all about — you guessed it — bread. At any of the bakery’s three cafes, you can expect the slice of thick and hearty bread that acts as the base of avocado toast to be nothing short of perfection. The slice is topped with spring peas, fresh herbs, lemon vinaigrette, and chili and salt flakes on a slice of seeded farm bread. To make it a complete meal, add an egg on top for an extra $1.50.

A newer spot in Putnam County, the name says everything you need to know about this restaurant. While The Brunch House does have many classic breakfast options like omelets and pancakes on the menu, nothing beats the Over the Top Avocado. This sourdough toast is topped with two perfectly poached eggs on a bed of sliced avocado, arugula salad, and prosciutto. To give it a little extra pizazz, the whole meal is drizzled with chili oil.

Kelly’s Bakery

Poughkeepsie

Located right near Cosimo’s in Poughkeepsie, this bakery serves up more than just pastries in Dutchess County. Kelly’s makes a gourmet avocado toast that will have you waiting in line for Sunday brunch. Pick between the avocado toast, with smashes avocado, cherry tomatoes, black lime, radishes, and sea salt on sourdough, or try Kelly’s toast with avocado, feta cheese, furikake, and cilantro-lime dressing on sourdough.

On Hudson’s historic Warren Street, The Maker Hotel is a well-known spot for happy hours and luxury stays. But what about brunch? The hotel’s cafe dishes up stunning morning plates, including the smashed avocado toast. Enjoy mashed avocado topped with everything seed mix, chevre cheese, and pickled onion at this stylish location. Add a hard-boiled egg into the mix for an extra $5.

As a mainstay on Newburgh’s thriving Liberty Street, Ms. Fairfax produces an avocado toast that is a cut above the rest. The chic eatery starts out with a hearty slice of toasted rye, which then gets layered with organic avocado and two eggs prepared any style. For a final touch, mixed greens, cilantro, and pickled onions top this toast off, and a side salad and coleslaw come with it.

Phoenicia Diner

Phoenicia

If Phoenicia Diner’s Instagram feed is any indication, its avocado toast is the epitome of #brunchgoals. It starts with toasted levain bread and gets stacked high with avocado mash, ricotta salata, pickled onion, cilantro lime seasoning, and a perfectly poached egg. Take advantage of the optional add-ons of trout, salmon, or bacon for a hefty breakfast.
