Sushi may have been the “it” food of the 1990s, but it seems that sophisticated diners everywhere are still clamoring for their regal raw fish in this decade, too. That’s why Rong Jian Ye — better known as Chef David, the owner/chef of Momiji Restaurant in Stone Ridge — has opened an outpost in downtown Rhinebeck. And if the popular Stone Ridge joint has a “kind of country” atmosphere, the new digs at Momiji Steakhouse & Bar are considerably more cosmopolitan. For starters, there’s an indoor waterfall. The modern, clean look is also accentuated by expansive glass, stone floors, and a wide variety of Asian touches throughout. But the expanded culinary options are what really lights Chef David’s fire. “We are really excited about our second restaurant,” he says. “We have four hibachi tables here and a sushi bar, and we are very family friendly.” The expanded menu includes more Asian Fusion cuisine, featuring all the classics, an extensive appetizer menu, house special rolls, teriyaki and tempura dishes, a great Bento Box lunch deal (only $10) and even a children’s menu. This summer, you can dine outside in the courtyard (and if you like, Facebook your friends about how delicious it is — there’s free Wi-Fi). And don’t fret if you can’t find Momiji while strolling down Rhinebeck’s well-worn main streets — it’s hidden in the courtyard behind Bread Alone on Market Street (in the spot formerly occupied by Sakura).
