Let’s be honest: Dad is tired of the same old brunch or grill-out every Father’s Day (and the tie box, too, for that matter). Shake it up with these fun alternatives.
Climb On!
Suit up for adventure this Father’s Day and take Dad on a thrilling rock climbing trip. Eastern Mountain Sports in New Paltz offers private guided climbs every day, along with classes designed for beginners. We can’t promise sunshine, so for indoor climbing there’s always The Inner Wall gym in New Paltz and Albany’s Indoor Rockgym.
Have a Cold One
Instead of cracking a cold one with Dad on the front lawn this Father’s Day, try exploring the Valley’s burgeoning brewery scene. Head to Newburgh Brewing Company for a Cream Ale, or tour the taps at Keegan Ales in Kingston.

Hot Rod
For the car-lover, the perfect destination is the18th Annual Cruisin’ on the Mountaintop Father’s Day Car Show in Tannersville. Expect live music while browsing a slew of antique and classic cars competing for 17 trophies. Main Street, Tannersville. June 21, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Cigar Shops
Take Dad out to relax with a cigar at the Dutchess County Cigar Company in Fishkill. Or, bring the party to you with Blue Smoke Cigar Lounge, where owners Ray Cummings and Hugh Donahue will hook Dad up with a full-service mobile cigar lounge, complete with cushy seating, lighting, and of course, myriad cigars.
