5 Irish Pubs For Your St. Patrick's Day Party

Irish eyes are smilin’ over the Hudson Valley this St. Patrick’s Day, with lots of local parties and other activities scheduled. Enjoy wearing green at one (or more) of the following restaurants and pubs — tell them Hudson Valley sent you.

Peint O Gwrw

36 Main St., Chatham. 518-392-2337

Okay, so they’re not from Ireland (the name means “pint of ale” in Welsh). But you can still enjoy all-you-can-eat corned beef and cabbage, listen to bagpipers, and chug down beers on tap from the local Chatham Brewing Company. Festivities begin at 6 p.m., and don’t be late — the pub fills up quickly.

The Claddagh Pub & Grill

925 Rte. 6, Mahopac. 845-628-0649

Celebrate the patron saint of Ireland with live music and dancing at this Mahopac hangout. On the menu: Irish stew served with specialty drinks. And of course, beer is on tap.

Mahoney’s Irish Pub and Restaurant

35 Main St., Poughkeepsie. 845-471-3027; www.mahoneysirishpub.com

Located at the site of the old Vassar brewery, this downtown Poughkeepsie hot spot features live music (provided by Vince Fisher, the Wild Rovers, and McCana) and drinks from 8 a.m. until midnight. Their eclectic menu of bar favorites (hot wings and quesadillas) as well as traditional Irish fare (Moira’s Shepherd’s Pie and Jameson & Stout Ribs) will pep up your St. Pat’s celebration.

The Dubliner

796 Main St., Poughkeepsie. 845-454-7322; www.dublinerpubny.com

Last year’s winner of Hudson Valley’s “Best Irish Pub” award has a grand celebration planned for St. Patrick’s Day. All-day entertainment includes live music, Irish step dancers, and bagpipers — along with a menu of traditional Irish food and drink. For the early birds, a full Irish breakfast will be served starting at 5 a.m.

Sweeney’s Irish Pub

33 Orange Ave. (Rte. 208), Walden. 845-778-3337; www.sweeneysirishpub.com

You’ve got to get up early to celebrate at this traditional Irish pub. Local radio station WPDH-FM broadcasts their annual Corned Beef ’n Chaos show from Sweeney’s starting at 6 a.m. Enjoy breakfast early; Irish favorites such as bangers and mash, corned beef and cabbage, and fish and chips are available throughout the day.
