Why should men get facials?

Anthony Fiore, owner of Capri Cosmetology Learning Centers, says, “Most men consider getting a facial as something a little too fussy for the likes of their manly skin. The spa slippers and soothing music might not appeal to you. I get it. But the real motivation to get your skin handled by the pros is the same reason you have a mechanic work on your car: They can do it better than you can. Come to Capri for a facial and I’m positive, you’ll love the experience!”

What steps can men take to stay healthy especially in the warmer months?

During warmer months, we are typically more active but have a tendency to attend more outdoor parties and indulge in foods high in fat and calories. The best way to stay healthy during warmer months is to exercise regularly either early in the morning or at dusk, drink plenty of water, and substitute unhealthy snacks with fresh fruits, vegetables, and nuts. These are good habits that will keep you fit and healthy all year long.

Is there anything I can do to prevent or postpone Alzheimer’s disease?

“By managing heart disease risk factors like high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and weight, a man may reduce his chances of developing Alzheimer’s,” says William J. Higgins, MD, MBA, Vice President, Medical Affairs and President, New York Presbyterian Medical Group/Hudson Valley. “A low-fat diet that includes plenty of fruits and vegetables can you keep the brain healthy. The omega-3 fatty acids found in nuts, olive oil, and avocados are correlated with arterial health. Finally, maintaining an active social life and performing mentally challenging activities may also delay or prevent memory loss.”

What should men do about the PSA test?

If you have a family history of prostate cancer or are of African descent you need to be tested yearly starting at 50 and possibly younger. If you wait to get symptoms, it is often too late to be helped. Find a good urologist and listen to his/her advice if your primary physician doesn’t agree. Keep track of your PSA and if it doubles in a year (i.e. 1 to 2) you need to be checked further.
