Old-Fashioned Sunday

September 11 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The Friends of Pruyn House will celebrate our 38th anniversary this year! Come join us for our annual “Old Fashioned Sunday” at the Pruyn House, 207 Old Niskayuna Rd., Latham NY, on Sunday September 11th from 12 noon to 4pm. The public is invited to this FREE event which will be held rain or shine.

Old Fashioned Sunday is a festive fun day in a lovely setting at this 5 1/2 acre site. The historic house built between 1825 and 1830 will be open for touring. The day will feature music throughout the afternoon provided by bands from the Town of Colonie as well as music from Ryan Clark, all the way from Nashville! A number of attractions are planned including Old Tyme craft demonstrations such as a one-room schoolhouse costumed re-enactment, sheep-shearing, blacksmithing, tinsmithing and honey extraction. Our Buhrmaster Barn will be filled with local vendors. Visit the beautiful gardens and other outbuildings such as the Tool Museum and Carriage House. For children, there will be pony rides, baby animals, a magician, an art show, games by Girl Scout Troop 5008, and a wizard. Kiwanis will be selling hamburgers, hot dogs, veggie-burgers, and soda, Emack & Bolio will have home-made ice cream, Joe’s Dough-to-Go will have pizza for sale and Rotary will be selling popcorn. Friends of Pruyn House volunteers will man a well-stocked Harvest Table for baked goods. We will also have George’s Market, flowers by Fort Orange Garden Club, dried floral arrangements by Blue Creek Garden Club, and a caricaturist!

“Our Pruyn House is rich with history and Old-Fashioned Sunday is a marvelous and time honored community event to highlight it’s heritage with educational demonstrations and recreational amusement. Special thanks to the Friends of the Pruyn House for continuing this well-established tradition,” said Colonie Town Supervisor Peter G. Crummey.

Old Fashioned Sunday is hosted by the Friends of Pruyn House. The mission of the Friends of Pruyn House, a not-for-profit community organization in partnership with the Town of Colonie, serving as the educational, historical and cultural center of the Town, is to restore, conserve and preserve the Pruyn House Complex. It is the site for a wide variety of public, private, civic and corporate events throughout the year.
