Hudson, NY – 510 Warren Street Gallery is happy to present an exhibit of ink on paper works by Morgan J. Burns titled “Plumage and Portals” beginning Friday, March 4th and on view until Sunday, March 27th 2022. We welcome all visitors to the gallery and ask them to follow the wearing of masks and social distancing protocols for everyone’s safety.
“These birds decide when they are ready to show themselves. I never know when the portal will open, but, when it does, they clearly have something to say. I have no choice but to listen and pass their message along.”
Using archival black ink, Burns textures with lines and dots to create shade and energy. He finds the marks and strokes that describe and define feathers of all density, movement and genus. With both the exotic and domestic species, Burns finds the gesture that is dynamic and narrative. The mass and surface of the bird’s body is counterbalanced by a graceful linear treatment that moves us around and through the compositions like equivalents of air and sound.
Morgan J. Burns is a self-taught artist who, in 2014, began to draw birds and other creatures in response to an internal drive. Encouraged and inspired by the many other accomplished artists in his life, Morgan also possessed an unrealized native skill for drawing. He continues to listen for when a piece is ready to emerge and, here at 510 Warren Street Gallery, we are not only treated to a show of skillful drawing but also nature’s magnificent diversity.
