Jazz in the Valley 222 – Celebrating 100 Years of Charles Mingus

Jazz in the Valley (JITV) returns to Poughkeepsie’s Waryas Park on Sunday, August 21, noon to 6:00 pm, with a celebration of the Legacy, History and the Future of Jazz. Presented by TRANSART & Cultural Services, Inc., and led by Guest Curator Craig Harris, the day-long festival celebrates the centennial of bassist/composer/bandleader Charles Mingus (1922-1979) with six musicians – Regina Carter, Carla Cook, Michael King, Joaquin Pozo, Camille Thurman-Green and NEA Jazz Master Buster Williams who, in the spirit of Mingus, are taking the music forward.
Discounted early bird tickets are available for $45 now through August 1. Advance general admission ticket pricing is $55 when purchased between August 2-20. Ticket pricing at the gate will be $65 (general admission) and $20 (students with valid ID). Early bird and advance general admission tickets can be purchased online through the festival’s website (jazzinthevalleyny.org).
Gate opens at 11:00am.
