Hunter Mountain
Hunter
You don’t need snowflakes to make Hunter Mountain a destination: A summer wonderland, it becomes festival central, drawing fun seekers from all over. In June, there is the famous Mountain Jam, now in its 11th year, as well as the new, three-day Taste of Country Music Festival (it debuted in 2013). The season concludes with two cultural events. The German Alps Festival gets the party going with plenty of oompah bands, traditional alpine folk dancers, and vendors serving up all manner of schnitzel, strudel, and spaetzle — and, of course, beer. You can work off all those rich foods by participating in the Spitz Blitz, a walk (or run) up Hunter Mountain with all proceeds going to charity. And don’t miss the Dachshund Derby. The International Celtic Festival rounds out the summer. Musicians from this country, as well as from across the pond, perform on three stages. Traditional foods and beverages (more beer!) are on tap. But perhaps the most anticipated event is the Bagpipe Competition and Massed March, now in its 34th year. 800-486-8376; www.huntermtn.com/huntermtn/festivals
