Best Reason to Love Mondays

Shed the Monday blues by sampling this selection of fun activities:

B Movie Night at Wunderbar and Bistro

What better way to completely drain your brain of the travails of the day than to see a double-feature of a guaranteed-to-be-terrible horror movie followed by an equally cheesy kung-fu movie (badly dubbed in English, of course). The film series debuted last spring, and the idea has taken off. “We hand out free popcorn, and people might order a couple of snacks like BBQ chicken wings,” says bartender Carla Wehrmeyer, who serves up drink specials from 10 p.m. to 1:15 a.m., when the last credits roll on the big screen over the fireplace. 518-828-0555; www.wunderbarbistro.com

Empty-the-Keg Night at Gunk Haus

It’s always a pleasure to visit the Gunk Haus — but on Monday night, beers from almost-empty kegs sell at half price (excluding growlers). You never know what’s going to be featured, but as winter closes in, expect to find classic dark lagers on the “empty” list, perfect for enjoying with heartier dishes like Sauerbraten and short ribs. 845-883-0866; www.gunkhaus.com

Irish Celtic Monday Menu at Rambler’s Rest

Beekman, Monroe

Ah, the luck of Irish and non-Irish alike when they visit Rambler’s Rest on Mondays. That’s when scrumptious Irish-inspired fare is served with your choice of soup (go for the potato leek) or house salad for $9.99. Of course, there is fish ’n chips and corned beef and cabbage (creatively presented with herb butter), but customers rave most about the Gaelic Chicken Cordon Bleu: breaded chicken breast layered with Irish bacon (a twist on traditional ham). There’s even Guinness in the gravy. “We have patrons who come here from the St. Brendan’s Irish football club up the road after their games,” says Monroe Manager Jaclyn Becher. “They all say it feels exactly like an Irish pub, except the food is even better.” 845-782-1345; www.ramblersrestny.com
