As if you don’t already get enough of them, now the mugs of historic voyagers Henry Hudson and Robert Fulton are on your mail, too.
Local artist Franc Palaia immortalized the famous river navigators on a first-day cover stamp, released May 15 at Poughkeepsie’s post office, to honor this year’s Quadricentennial celebration. The stamp, which also depicts the seafarers’ ships, the Half Moon and Clermont, respectively, is available in a “peel-and-stick” version at Palaia’s G.A.S. Gallery and Studio in Poughkeepsie. “Not everyone had the chance to participate in the event in May,” says Palaia. “I figured, why not make them adhesive so people can use them as regular 44-cent postage stamps or collector’s items?” Now there’s an idea that earns our stamp of approval.
