Animal Encounters

BEAR MOUNTAIN STATE PARK Bear Mountain. 845-786-2701, ext. 263 Trailside Museum and Wildlife Center. Animal exhibits, self-guided trails; history, geology, nature museums. Parking available at Bear Mountain Inn. Museum and Wildlife Center open daily, $1, $.50 ages 6-12, under 5 free. $6 parking fee.

 

CATSKILL ANIMAL SANCTUARY Saugerties. 845-336-8447; www.casanctuary.org Spend some time with horses, ducks, and other farm animals rescued from abuse or neglect, now being raised in a safe, friendly environment. Weekly open house, special events in spring and summer, including vegetarian cooking classes. Apr. 1-Oct. 31, Sat.-Sun. $5.
