When Hudson Valley magazine published its first issue in April 1972, Richard Nixon was president, Nelson Rockefeller was New York’s governor, Volkswagen Beetles ruled the road, and bell-bottoms were all the rage.
Much has changed since then. But, as every good historian knows, what goes around comes around. Although we’re eternally grateful that bell-bottoms haven’t had a second run, the Beetle has made a comeback. And there’s no denying that many of the things that we love about living in the Valley are a direct consequence of the people, places, and events that came before us.
So, whether you admired (or were at odds with) some of these people, liked (or loathed) living through some of these events, here’s our take on the most influential figures and occurrences of the last 40 years.
