Event Summary
Hudson Valley Magazine, a division of Today Media, hosted its 6th annual Excellence in Nursing Awards on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at the Grandview in Poughkeepsie, NY celebrating the region’s finest nurses in correlation with National Nurses Week.

The Program
The evening kicked off with a cocktail hour overlooking the Hudson at the Grandview in Poughkeepsie. After the awards ceremony, guests enjoyed dinner and danced the night away to music by Hal Prince Music and Entertainment.

The Party Favors
Each guest received a complimentary bottle of Doc’s Draft Hard Cider – a local favorite – courtesy of Warwick Valley Winery and Distillery in Warwick, NY.

The Guests of Honor
The reception welcomed 66 nominated nurses, along with 250 friends and family. The top nurse award was given to Sherry Berbit, RN, BSN, MS, CADC (pictured at left) of Bon Secours Charity Health System.

The Guest Speaker
The night included a heartfelt story from Donna DePinto, whose son Jack was diagnosed with stage four Burkitt’s Lymphoma at the age of two. She shared her experiences with the wonderful nurses who treated Jack, now in full recovery two years later.

The Scholarship Winner
Hudson Valley Magazine awarded a $1,500 scholarship to Mahopac High School senior Danielle Simendinger, who has dreams of becoming a nurse.
