Head to the theater for some songs and a little magic, or celebrate Halloween with a monster mash and treasure hunt

Whoooo Is There?

Oct: 11: Owleen Did you know that there are more than 200 species of owls? Or that the birds can turn their heads almost 360 degrees around? Learn more fun facts about these fowl from a nature expert, who gives a talk about the birds’ day to day lives (with the help of a feathery friend) and which types of owls call the Valley home. Then strap on your hiking boots and grab a flashlight for an outdoor exploration, and see if you can spot an owl in the wild. 7 p.m. $10. Abracadabra!

Oct. 24: Magic with Margaret Steele This popular performer, who has taken the stage in countries all over the world including Indonesia and China, brings her tricks to Rhinebeck. Prepare to be amazed as she pulls rabbits from hats, birds from under thin air, and untangles all sorts of impossible knots. 11 a.m. $9, $7 children. Dance the Night Away

Oct. 24-25: Monster Mash and Bash Come dressed in your Halloween costume for the party. The day includes a monster parade, spooky storytelling, and “Boo”gie dances. Don’t miss out on Halloween bingo, because you could win a prize. Try your hand at fun games like Feed the Monster and Stack the Crazy Critter. To top the day off, be sure to stop by the photo area and have your picture snapped with couple of monsters. Going on a Treasure Hunt

Oct. 31: Trick or Treat Since last year’s event was such a smash hit, the Museum at Bethel Woods is once again hosting its Halloween treasure hunt. Kids dress in costumes roam the grounds and approach the friendly (or not so friendly) witches and warlocks who are standing guard over the treats. Those who are brave enough to do so head home with a sizable supplement to their candy piles. 12-4 p.m. Free admission; reservations recommended. 200 Hurd Rd., Bethel. 866-781-2922; www.bethelwoodscenter.org

Lovely Laurie

Oct. 3: Laurie Berkner Band LIVE! This award-winning children’s performer has captured the hearts of thousands with her music that is both fun and educational. Her tunes have been featured on several children’s programs that air on the Nick Jr. and Sprout channels. She and her band take the stage to play old favorites (like “Victor Vito” and “The Goldfish”) as well as new hits (like “My Blue Sailboat” and “Fast and Slow”). 11 a.m. $20-$45.
