What attracted you to ENT/plastic surgery?

I love helping people feel better about the way they look. This could be for a child with a cleft lip deformity, a cancer or trauma patient who may need their face or jaw reconstructed, or a cosmetic patient who is looking to turn back the clock and restore confidence in their appearance.

What is your personal philosophy when it comes to cosmetic surgery?

To provide a more natural look. I like the idea of putting people in balance and making them look as good on the outside as they feel on the inside.

What are some noteworthy plastic surgery trends?

Old-fashioned techniques of large incision surgery have fallen out of favor. Non-surgical techniques like Coolsculpting to freeze away fat, radiofrequency skin tightening treatments like Thermage, novel and more natural-looking Botox techniques, and injectables are all highly popular right now.

What conditions do you most often encounter as an ENT?

I take care of functional breathing issues related to fractures, deviated septum and sinus problems, but I can also shape the nose cosmetically on the outside. Similarly, I deal with cosmetic issues related to the ears.

Talk about how the use of Botox has been refined over the years.

I find the key is not to overdo Botox. I put in just the right amount in the right spot to relax the wrinkle away while still maintaining normal facial expression.

What’s your patient demographic (male vs. female)?

Overall, it’s 75 percent women and 25 percent men, though some procedures like rhinoplasty are evenly divided, and hair transplantation is more popular with men.

What challenges you?

I perform microvascular reconstruction, which allows me to transplant tissue from other areas of the body to reconstruct pretty much any defect in the head and neck area. These are long, complex procedures that can take 10-12 hours to perform.

What inspires you about your work?

I’m academically affiliated with the New York Medical College and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Teaching the next generation of doctors is incredibly inspiring.
