Leaps and bounds: Locals flip for a new trampoline park in Poughkeepsie

They’re literally bouncing off the walls at Bounce! Trampoline Sports in Poughkeepsie. Opened this past February, the massive complex offers 10,000 square feet of trampolines that actually scale the walls, too. So don’t get cooped up inside when it’s raining this season.

“It’s hip, new, and exciting,” says Bruce Katz, one of several partners in the venture (another partner is Danny Fried, who previously owned the long-running China Club in Manhattan). Katz’s visit to an indoor trampoline park in northern California five years ago sparked the idea. In case you haven’t heard, trampoline parks are a nationwide trend, led by big names like Sky Zone, Cosmic Jump, and Rebounderz.

Before Poughkeepsie, the investors opened two other locations — on Long Island and in Valley Cottage, where celebrity sightings include Jake T. Austin of Wizards of Waverly Place fame and mega-star Chris Rock (with his kids in tow).

Since the joint is jumping, it is highly recommended (especially on weekends) that you reserve a time spot in advance by calling ahead, though you could just show up on a whim and get a wristband. Sessions end on the hour. You could start at the central court open jump area of interconnected trampolines; then hop into a foam pit; play dodgeball (two games are always going on, one for ages six to 11, the other for 12 and up); or try your luck on the basketball court, where you can finally achieve that lifelong dream of slam-dunking every time. Snowboarders can perfect their tricks on special foam boards, too.

All ages are welcome, but for safety’s sake, there is a separate area dedicated to the five and under set. Bounce also has designated family and toddler times (on Mondays and Tuesdays, respectively) when families with small children are admitted at discounted rates.

Every Friday night, a Jump ’n Glow session features black lights, lasers, and cranked-up music to create a clubby atmosphere — though, again, all ages are welcome (parents can hang out in a Wi-Fi–enabled lounge).

You can also reserve the facility for birthday parties or high-energy get-togethers — such as a recent shindig held by a Marist college sorority. “The kick is you’re getting fit while you’re having fun,” says Katz. 845-206-4555; www.bounceonit.com
