Slip ’n slide: Fast-paced fun at the region’s water parks

Splash into summer at Fishkill’s Splash Down Beach: Beginning May 24, you can chill out in the Croc Creek Wavy Lazy River, or play around in the Bob the Builder Splash Works area. The park offers a variety of restaurants including Nathan’s Famous, Cosimo’s Pizza, and the Frosty Shack. New this year: The park’s Safari Outpost features live tigers, capuchin monkeys, parrots, and an assortment of reptiles. Opening June 14, Zoom Flume Water Park in East Durham cools off customers with attractions like the Riptide Cove wave pool; Wild River; and Grand Prix Splashway, which pits riders against each other in a watery race. New this year: The 700-foot-long dual zipline, the largest water park zipline in the world. More than 80 feet high at some points, the line sends riders soaring through the park in groups of two.
