Take a stroll down memory lane as we share some of our more memorable covers from the past 35 years.

35 Years of Covering the Valley

Looking back over 35 years worth of magazine covers takes some time; after all, this issue marks our 423rd cover. But let us assure you, it is one fun job.  At first, they just appeared dated – really dated!  But after that initial shock, we were free to wander down memory lane.  Oh, remember when the Valley was designated a National Heritage Area (our cover story in January 1999), or when Mario Cuomo was governor (March 1987), or when men routinely appeared in public with shaggy hair and big, bushy sideburns (April 1975).  Our logo has changed several times – we’ve been a publication that covers “the Catskills to the Berkshires,” and later “a magazine of the good life from Westchester to Albany.”  And of course, the original newsstand price of 50 cents has risen just a bit.

But while many things have changed, some remain the same.  We’ve been writing about restaurants since the very early days, our “Best Of” issue – which kicked off in 1986 – gets bigger each year.  And some topics never go out of style, including the river, IBM, and what’s up with Stewart Airport.
